For her “Kinderlos” (“Childless”) series photo design student Magdalena Spinn photographed empty, deserted playgrounds across Berlin. With the question of what the city might look like in ten years from now always in the back of her mind, the Ruhrakademie student explores the phenomenon of demographic change. Birth rates in Germany have been declining steadily for several years and the number of women who have children is lower in this country than almost anywhere else in the world. Despite the fact that some of her photographs were taken in parts of Germany with the highest birth rates, her work successfully manages to convey a sense of how bleak and desolate Berlin would be without children.
